Doing kill -9 on every process you want to kill sure explains why you keep getting into trouble ;) You only use signal 9 if signal 15 doesnt work. with signal 9 there is no cleanup and it shouldn't be used unless 15 (regular kill/terminate signal) fails. Just a couple of things to add.. 1) you can use "pkill firefox" to kill a process without using ps and then searching thru the results. 2) The only app I really missed was Photoshop (gimp doesn't have everything I need), but after some good work over the last couple of years, "Photoshop CS2" works almost flawlessly in wine.
